Advanced FR Shirts and Apparel Designed to Last and Protect

DRIFIRE® Comfortable FR Wear is engineered to be inherently flame resistant, providing an additional layer of protection when you need it most. Unlike garments with flame resistant treatments, DRIFIRE's performance apparel, like our flame resistant jackets, will not deteriorate over time and has no-melt or drip characteristics. This means it will not melt from high heat or flame. It will also keep you dry in dangerous elements, with advanced garments made of fibers which dry much faster than standard cotton.

DRIFIRE provides a safe, effective performance undergarment solution for people that have the potential to be exposed to flame or flash fire. All DRIFIRE flame resistant (FR) shirts and other apparel include distinct advantages over lower quality treatments for garments. FR shirts and apparel offer many advantages, including:

  • No Melt, No Drip
  • No After-flame
  • Charlength is 3.5 inches
  • Thermal Protective Property (TPP) is > 7 cal/cm2

Modacrylic is the predominate fiber in DRIFIRE garments including our FR shirts. First created in 1949, modacrylic has a proven, well-documented FR pedigree and has been used is a wide variety of everyday products. Modacrylic does not combust. And not only are the fibers difficult to ignite, but they will actually self-extinguish. Technically speaking, modacrylic is a synthetic copolymer fiber. Practically speaking, for all the reasons noted here, our application of modacrylic in DRIFIRE garments like our FR shirts results in fire resistant protection plus a wide range of additional benefits based on this fiber’s outstanding overall properties.

First, our patented application of modacrylic fiber in DRIFIRE garments is the key to our flame resistance technology. In short, flame resistance is built in to the product. 85% or more of the fabric used in FR shirts, jackets, and apparel is woven from modacrylic. Modacrylic does not burn sustainably, providing permanent protection from dripping, melting, and fusing to the skin when exposed to flame that treated FR shirts from other FR agents simply cannot promise.

In contrast to FR agents that are added in, or layered on combustible fabrics, DRIFIRE’s FR feature is forever. It does not wash away or wear out. FR shirts and apparel are designed to last through extended use, making it safer and simpler to use regularly over long periods. There are no caustic agents or dangerous chemical compounds in modacrylic, nor are there any added to our garments before, during or after the process of garment manufacture.

Modacrylic's Other Astonishing Properties in Flame Resistant Apparel

While modacrylic’s chief feature is its ability to provide flame resistance, it achieves this with a relatively low fabric density. This means that exceptionally low-weight, high-comfort garments like ours can be produced. But, that’s not where the benefits of this fiber end. Soft, strong, resilient, and dimensionally stable, modacrylic fibers show good press and shape retention and are quick to dry.

This means your FR shirts will withstand almost any elements, going from extreme heat of fires to extreme colds, while protecting the skin from freezing and fabrics melting onto the skin. Our FR shirts and apparel use fibers which have outstanding resistance to chemicals and solvents, are not attacked by moths or mildew, and are non-allergenic. Fabric experts will also often note that modacrylic features relatively high durability comparable to wool, a moderate resistance to abrasion, and a very low tenacity.

As a result, modacrylic-based blends are soft, warm, light and resilient and display high performance when it comes to appearance retention. The fibers do not wrinkle, they have great dimensional stability, high elastic recovery, and the overall ability to hold their shape. FR shirts are designed with modern flame and flash fire situations in mind, while also addressing the need for maneuverability during these situations.
