DRIFIRE Spends Memorial Day With Troops in Afghanistan
CHICAGO, IL-- DRIFIRE®, a leading manufacturer of comfortable flame-resistant clothing, traveled to Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan over Memorial Day weekend to meet with troops, showcase its products, and collect feedback from deployed users of its Comfortable FR Wear clothing line.
Cory McCarty, a retired Command Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army currently working for DRIFIRE, represented DRIFIRE at the Memorial Day trip, which was organized by ADS Inc. The purpose of the trip was to visit service members currently deployed at Camp Vance and give them an opportunity to view and sample some of the latest tactical gear available to support them in their missions.
"The conditions in Afghanistan make Iraq look like a country club," commented McCarty, a veteran of the Iraq War who served multiple tours of duty during his service. Temperatures reaching up to 100°F and wind gusts of up to 60 MPH highlighted the discomfort faced by U.S. and Coalition forces in Afghanistan. DRIFIRE products, which feature flame-resistant protection as well as permanent comfort properties including superior wicking and fast drying, were well received by Air Force and Special Forces users currently deployed in Afghanistan. "I talked to an Air Force member who loved our shirts, and a member of the Special Forces also had very positive feedback on our pants," mentioned McCarty in reference to DRIFIRE's lightweight tee shirts, often worn as a base layer, and the DRIFIRE Combat Pant, which is currently in wear trials.
The Memorial Day remembrance celebration was particularly poignant for everyone at Bagram Air Field this year, as one of the units sponsoring the event lost some team members just a few days prior. "The Memorial Day event was particularly solemn and meaningful this year for me. I could not think of a better way to spend it than out with the people who are putting their lives on the line for all of us back home," concluded McCarty.
