DRIFIRE was engineered using the patented Dri-release® performance technology (U.S. patent #5,888,914) by Optimer Performance Fibers to give the wearer the ultimate Performance FR solution on the market today. Dri-release technology is the result of 3 years of intense research into how to make clothing for exercisers more comfortable. Dr. Fred Katz, one of DuPont's most prolific retired inventors, studied comfort testing, fiber research, and fabric technology for Optimer, Inc. to develop the most comfortable product under both conditions of intense heat and cold.

Dri-release is an intimate blend that offers ideal levels of wicking and fast-drying fibers to remove moisture from the wearer's skin, move it through a fabric, and release it into the atmosphere. Subsequent work indicates that the interfaces between the minor per cent hydrophilic (wicking) and major per cent hydrophobic (fast-drying) fibers of the patent actually drives moisture out of the fabric in an optimum way. This technology also allows multi-layer wicking and fast drying due to the intimate nature of the fiber blend. Unlike treated performance garments, our technology is built into the yarn, which allows moisture to seamlessly pass from one layer to the next, keeping you comfortable and dry in any environment.

Over the past decade, Dri-release has become preferred by many premium performance apparel manufacturers for best in-in-class comfort and performance for use in both winter and summer athletic wear and is used by premium manufacturers of medical socks and nightwear, as well.

DRIFIRE, based on Dri-release, is a permanent comfort technology that feels like your favorite natural fiber (cotton, wool, etc.) shirt or socks, and dries 4 times faster than cotton or wool. As a result it combines the best features of natural and synthetic fibers, while minimizing the deficiencies of each. It also has built-in the Freshguard® bacteriostat that slows the development of odors, while not interfering with the natural balance of bacteria on your skin. Double blind testing at Yale University's Peirce Laboratories found that wearers begin to feel more comfortable as soon as they put on Dri-release garments, and are able to thermoregulate their body temperature more easily as they begin to exercise, and as they cool down.

DRIFIRE next-to-skin garments are manufactured with flatlock seams to enhance comfort by reducing the impact of day-to-day chafing hazards.

Optimer tests and certifies every production run of DRIFIRE fabric to assure that it meets rigorous standards for wicking and drying, pilling, shrinkage, and other factors. Optimer continues to do performance testing to compare the Water Release Rates, Skin Temperatures and Humidity Levels for DRIFIRE garments to other competitive technologies to assure that the patented technology continues to perform best in actual use conditions.
